Why do we fear that which we shouldnt?

i was sitting outside tonight relaxing when something caught my eye, it looked like a imp sitting on a table, now i know imps dont really lurk around on table tops but bare with me, most kids when they see things like this in the dark allow their imaginations to start running wild, running them into a state of fear.
I pulled out my pocket light and shined it on the figure and it was revealed as a garden lamp, its amazing what once seemed dark and harmful is revealed as something that doesnt need to be fear.

How true is this in our spiritual walk, we fear the thing that lurks in the dark, allowing it to grip us into fear when all we have to do is allow the light Christ has placed in our life to shine into that dark corner? Its amazing we tend to fear things that thrive in the dark when all thats needed is some light and faith in God and we realize we have nothing to fear, For if God is for us who can be against us? Meaning what can succeed in destroying us? the answer is nothing, Gods bigger than the biggest imp shaped garden lamp, bigger than the worse thing satan can throw at us!
That which thrives in darkness, withers and dies in the light
